Grilled Pork Belly @ Doi Moi DC

Doi Moi an Asian Tapas Place Like No Other on U Street

Fried Pork Dumplings $8

Start your Asian tapas dinner adventure with dumplings at this unique restaurant on U street, DC. The area has been transforming so much that we are super excited to dive into this food heaven with our first Doi Moi dish. This place has a very fluid identity with a mix of tapas and family-style meals, enough to satisfy every craving you might have. Great way to set the mood for your noming dinner as you wait for more food. It’s not just crisp, and it’s extra crispy thick with that nice crunchy bite — fried goodness on the outside and soft pork filling on the inside. The pork was nicely seasoned with a strong flavor that shined through the crispy shell and dipping sauce. I kind of wish there was a bit more pork inside some of the dumplings. It was a bit uneven meat portion distribution. The best is to split them in half and dip every bit into their yummy sweet and sour dipping sauce for that extra flavor kick. You will want to double-dip and trust me, this one time, and it’s ok because we are nomsters like that. You are listed on the menu as Kiew Tod Fried Pork Dumplings. Order up and let us know what you think.

Grilled Pork Belly $13

Get your belly filled with nomnom pork dinner at this unique tapas and family-style fusion restaurant on U Street, DC. This place has a very fluid identity with a mix of tapas and family-style dishes, enough to satisfy every craving you might have. I love this type of dish where you get to assemble a little bit of everything into a single bite. The pork belly was cooked perfectly with excellent thick meaty and fatty parts. We love our fatty layers because that’s where love comes from. Don’t cut too much pork and save enough for more bites with vermicelli noodles and vegetables. Don’t forget to top everything with lots of sauce. This combination completely changes the flavors with so much going on it’s a joy in every bite. Our favorite combination was pork belly, noodles, cucumber, and carrots. Not sure what category this dish will fall under. It’s too big for tapas, but it’s a bit too small with just two pork bellies for a family-style dish. It is listed on the menu as Banh Hoi Grilled Pork Belly & Vermicelli Noodles.

Seared Scallops in Green Curry $16

Spicy up your dinner with some curry from unique Asian tapas and a family-style fusion restaurant on U st, DC. This place has a very fluid identity with a mix of tapas and family-style dishes, enough to satisfy every craving you might have. The super nice waiter warned us that every dish marked as Phet on the menu means very spicy. We are tough nomster, so that didn’t scare us. It was defiantly spicy, but not the kind that overwhelms your mouth, so you can’t taste anything. You might want to have a glass of cold water on ready in case it’s too much for you. We are not as tough as we thought, so the water was essential. These might be some of the wealthiest scallops we’ve ever tasted. Seared to perfection and yet very soft, it was pure joy to eat them. Added a sweet, strong flavor that went great with green curry and Jasmine rice. Let us help you find it on the menu as Gaeng Kheiyu Hoi Chell Seared Scallops in Green Curry.

Blue Crab Fried Rice $17

Get crabbing family-style and share with friends this fried rice from unique Asian tapas and family-style fusion restaurant on U St, DC. This place has a very fluid identity with a mix of tapas and family-style dishes, enough to satisfy every craving you might have. First spoonful, and you might see a WOWZY expression on your face. You just get hit by a heavenly flavor combination. So well balanced that you can taste both the large lumps of super exquisite blue crab and very flavorful fried rice. A blend made in heaven, or as usually referred to Doi Moi’s kitchen. This is more of a family-style dish with a large portion that might be too much for even two people to finish. Excellent main course dish, especially after eating something spicy. It’s addicting that you might keep eating even after been stuffed. Someone save me. I can’t stop eating! Maybe just one more spoon? Or maybe five! Let us help you find it on the menu as Khao Phat Puu Blue Crab Fried Rice.

Flourless Taro Butternut Squash Cake $8

We are so stuffed but can’t pass up some Asian-style cakes at this fantastic new family-style Asian tapas restaurant on U St, DC. This place has a very fluid identity with a mix of tapas and family-style dishes, enough to satisfy every craving you might have. You can’t go without dessert when trying out a brand new place. So far, everything was so good that our expectation is quite high. Plus, it came highly recommended by our awesome waiter. Also, we were very curious about the strange mixture of taro and butternut squash. The light flavor and texture were our favorite parts of this unique dessert. I love the pumpkin sauce, and it makes for a beautiful fall dish. After all, it’s all about the pumpkin season. After so much food, you can’t eat a lot, so this made for a perfect tapas dessert. Such a strange combination, and yet it was one of the tastiest desserts on U st.
